Greek Art Part 3 – Late Classical & Hellenistic

After the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE, the leaders' general divided up his empire into three parts. During this period, Greek culture and spread throughout the Mediterranean and Near Eastern world.The term Hellenistic literally means "Greek-like." So, during this period Greek art, philosophy, mathematics, and many other aspects of Greek culture spread through the areas Alexander had conquered. Alexander, even in death, was responsible for disseminating the culture of the Greeks into many other culture, letting it take root and influence other cultures for millennia. 

The art of this period was often still made by Greek artists under foreign employment, however artists from other culture, learned the Greek style and began making art, sculpture and architecture in the Greek way on their own.
